The light at the end of the energy tunnel
By the end of last December, Red Electrica (REE), a company chaired by Luis Atienza, announced an encouraging sign. According to forecasts by the company that manages the power lines in Spain, in 2010, would be closed with a demand for electricity in the entire country of 259,940 gig watt hours, which represented an increase of 2.9% in relation to 2009, a catastrophic year from the point of view of consumption of light.
Fuelled by the economic crisis, demand for light in 2009 had fallen by 4.8% in relation to 2008. It was a historical thump in a few months, which had come to detect decreases in consumption of up to 10%, figures that are not remembered since reliable statistics of electricity demand
