Buildings and domestic
In general, energy consumption associated with building is around 30% of total energy consumption in Spain. This energy is mainly used to fulfill needs like climate control (heating and refrigeration), hot sanitary water and lighting in both residential and service sector.
Usually, the long-lasting useful life of buildings and installations results in a very high improvement potential in everything related to energy efficiency. This fact- that has been identified from several different technological, social and political fields- has leaded the promotion of different measures to generalize the models based on the Nearly –Zero Energy Buildings. On this matter, the new European Directives present an ambitious scene to take the Energy Efficiency Measures for Building before the next 2020.
The improvements in this field can come from technologies such as:
-High efficiency climate control systems in both generation and distribution.
- Application of efficient lighting systems.
-Use of distributed generation systems (microgeneration, renewable energies) and implementation of Smart Cities.
-Application of new materials and constructive solutions which improve thermal envelopes of buildings.
- Control and management systems.
From EnergyLab, with our technical -demonstrative and R&D- projects, dissemination sessions, technological researches etc.- we want to help to meet a higher degree in building efficiency in order to optimize the use of the available resources and get a more sustainable and competitive society.
